Entrepreneurs and their ventures are becoming a driving force behind financial growth, innovation, and social responsibility within the global economy and Asia specifically. The Entrepreneurship panel will provide a forum to learn from entrepreneurs and academic professionals about their perspectives and experiences in Asia, and how they can be applied to aspiring entrepreneurs.

Speaker: Vinay Gupta

Founder & CEO, Janeeva Inc.

Vinay Gupta

Mr. Gupta is the founder and CEO of Janeeva Inc, an outsourcing relationship management company based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Before Janeeva, he was an Entrepreneur in Residence with Ardesta LLC, a pioneer in investing in "small tech" MEMS companies. Through Ardesta, Mr. Gupta served as president of three venture backed companies: Sensicore, Discera and Translume. In 1996, he co-founded BlueGill Technologies, an Internet infra-structure company that specializes in Internet billing software. BlueGill was sold to CheckFree Corporation in 2000 for $250 million. Mr. Gupta has held positions as Managing Director-Asia Pacific and General Manager-India for Cabletron Systems, as well as Manager of Global Operations at NCR and Zenith Electronics. He continues to serve on the board of directors for Translume.

CEO, Logic Solutions

Jimmy Hsiao

Mr. Hsiao founded Logic Solutions in 1995, a global company that provides technology solutions and services, including custom mobile strategy and application development, web applications, and comprehensive websites for businesses across the US. He has grown Logic from a one man shop to employees in five locations around the world - Ann Arbor, Irvine, Beijing, Shanghai and Nanjing. Logic's mobile development expertise is evidenced by its impressive portfolio of technologically sophisticated B2B apps developed for companies in a wide array of diverse industries. Mr. Hsiao holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Engineering and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, both from the University of Michigan. Before founding Logic Solutions, he was a senior software engineer at Mallinckrodt Sensor Systems and the Leco Corporation.

CEO, Ebinger Manufacturing & Jets Glove Manufacturing; President, Fuchi Textile North America

Janny Lu

Ms. Lu serves as Chief Executive Officer for Ebinger Manufacturing (EMC). EMC is the manufacturer and master distributor for full range of industrial fasteners and construction related product. She is also the CEO of Jets Glove, U.S.A, and partner of Jets Glove Manufacturing, with 3 manufacturing facilities in China. Ms. Lu is also the President of Fuchi Textile North America, which is part of Fuchi Textile Company, a manufacturer of all types of fabrics and leather for automotive seating with manufacturing facilities in Taiwan, China, Malaysia and Thailand. She is a recipient of the Michigan Top 10 Best Businessman award in 2001, and also the Presidential Award from the President of Taiwan as a Top 10 Outstanding Entrepreneur overseas in 2002. She also has experience serving as President of the Taiwanese Chamber of commerce in 1999.

Associate Professor of Finance, Stephen M. Ross School of Business

David J. Brophy

David Brophy is a member of the Finance Faculty and the Entrepreneurial Studies Faculty at the Ross School of Business, where he teaches courses in financing research commercialization, venture capital, private equity, and valuation. He serves as director of the University of Michigan Center for Venture Capital and Private Equity Finance. Dr. Brophy has been a consultant to government agencies domestically and internationally, and has served on the Governor's Commission on High Technology in Michigan. He is active in the development of policy regarding the university role in technology transfer, entrepreneurial activity, and venture capital investment. After graduating from St. Francis Xavier University (B.A. and B.C.), he received his MBA from the University of Detroit and his PhD from the Ohio State University before teaching. His research focuses on pricing of initial public offerings of common stock and characteristics of the venture capital market.
